When
we read scripture, especially the Old Testament, it is not uncommon to have some
difficulty understanding what the Lord is telling us. A simple practice that can
enrich one’s experience of God’s Word
is to read the selection more then once.
With this in mind, there is a prayer form using
scriptures were the passage is read four times. Each time with a certain
purpose, this is know as Lectio Divina.
I will share each step with you but, you can choose the extent you would
like use this prayer form either part or all. The first step is to simple read
the passage, and pause for a short time . The second is to reread the passage
and select a word or phrase that attracts you, again pause. Read a
third time and
ask yourselve what the selected word or phrase is saying to you, and what
your responce will be,
pause and reflect . And after the fourth reading, rest and simply be with
your insight to God’s Word.
Again our reading/praying with scriptures can
include just a simple re-reading or all of the above steps. To bring our
attention to something within the scriptures that speaks to each of us in our
experience of the Kingdom.
