“Clothed With Power From On High”

Luke 24:49

I.                    The Promise of the coming of the Holy Spirit (John 14).

bullet

Jesus calls the Holy Spirit our comforter (vs. 16), counselor (vs. 16), and the Spirit of Truth (vs. 17).

bullet

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will “come right in” (vs. 17-18).

bullet

The Holy Spirit is the One who distinguishes between children of this world and children of God.

bullet

Did you know this?  We are not orphans; rather we are adopted sons and daughters of God.

bullet

Do you know how easy this is for God?  Either His Spirit is there or isn’t there.

bullet

Have you thought about why this is so difficult for us?

-         We are not God (there is no mark on Christians like there is in the “Left Behind” series).

-         We have a powerful enemy (he can fake the miraculous work that the Holy Spirit does).

-         We have a battle going on within us (the flesh verses the Spirit).

II.                 The Fulfillment (Acts 1 and 2).

III.               The Rest of the Story (that’s us!).

bullet

The first disciples were clothed with power from high, just as promised.

bullet

So has the Living Church of the Lord Jesus Christ right down to this day and even minute (I Corinthians 12:12-13).

bullet

Flesh verses the Spirit is the game plan for now.

-         Galatians 5 (Walk in the Spirit and Live in the Spirit)

-         Ephesians 4:3 (unity of the Spirit)

-         Ephesians 4:4 (one Spirit)

-         Ephesians 4:30 (don’t grieve the Holy Spirit)

-         Ephesians 5:8-9 (live as children of light; find out what pleases the Lord).

bullet

All who have ever been born again have received power to become children of God (John 1:12).  The flesh battles the Spirit now, but we know who wins!

bullet

Ephesians 6:10-18 (put on the armor; pray in the Spirit).

bullet

Revelation 22:12-21 (Unique invitation from the Spirit and the Bride).

The entire message of the Gospel is boiled down into 4 statements in Luke 24 and we add one more from Acts 1:

1)      The Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the 3rd day.

2)      Repentance and forgiveness of sin will be preached in His Name to all nations.

3)      You are witnesses of these things.

4)      The Holy Spirit will come and give you the power to do these things.

5)      This same Jesus will return the same way you have seen Him go.

“Even so come Lord Jesus”!
