Layettes
2 shirts
2 gowns/footed sleepers
1 bath-sized bar of soap
4 cloth diapers
2 washcloths
1 sweater

2 receiving blankets

2 safety pins
Wrap the layette in one of the blankets and secure with the safety pins. Good "gently used" items may be substituted for new ones. Sized up to 24 months may be used. Infant sweatshirts may be substituted for the sweaters. Diapers, receiving blankets, and gowns may be cut from a bolt of flannel. Use pinking shears to cut diapers 22 1/2" wide. A square cut from the width of the fabric-usually 45" wide easily makes a blanket.
Quilts
Quilts should be approximately 60" x 80" and made of any new or good used fabrics. They should be tied with yarn. Please keep in mind tht a 60" x 80" quilt should weigh about 4-5 lbs. If it weighs less, please use heavier filler so the quilts provide sufficient warmth during cold seasons. Blankets and "store-bought" quilts are also needed.
